Editorial Standards & How We Research
Money content is only worth reading if you can trust how it was made. This page documents exactly how every method, guide, comparison, and data point on SideHustlesGuide is researched, written, reviewed, and kept up to date — so you can judge our work on its merits.
Who writes and reviews this site
SideHustlesGuide is produced by an in-house editorial team that researches online business models, freelancing, e-commerce, content creation, and investing. Every page is written, fact-checked, and reviewed against the standards below before it is published, and re-reviewed on a rolling schedule. We publish under a single editorial identity — the SideHustlesGuide Editorial Team — because our pages are collaborative: a method entry may combine primary research, structured data review, and editing from several contributors. The byline and the last-updated date on each article tell you who is accountable for it and when it was last checked.
Our research methodology
We build structured knowledge, not listicles. Before a side hustle enters our library it is documented against a fixed schema — startup budget, difficulty, time commitment, time to first income, realistic monthly income range, risk, scalability, automation potential, and more. Standardizing the data is what lets us compare methods honestly instead of hyping whichever one pays us the most. Our process:
- Primary sources first. We prioritise official platform documentation and pricing pages, marketplace fee schedules, government tax and business-registration guidance, and first-party data from the companies and tools involved.
- Real operator evidence. We cross-reference practitioner reports, public income breakdowns, community discussions, and case studies to sanity-check what actually happens in practice — not just what a sales page promises.
- Triangulated income figures. Every income range is a range for a reason (see below), built from multiple independent sources rather than a single success story.
- Hands-on tool evaluation. Where we review a tool or platform, we assess its current pricing, free tier, feature set, and limitations directly rather than paraphrasing its marketing.
How we present income numbers
The fastest way to lose a reader's trust is a screenshot of someone's best month presented as the norm. We never publish a single “you can make $10,000/month” figure. Instead, every method shows a typical range alongside a realistic floor and an upper band that only a minority reach. These are estimates, clearly labelled as such, intended to help you compare the relative earning potential of different methods — not predictions of what you specifically will earn. Your results depend on skill, effort, market, and luck, and many people earn little or nothing from a given method.
How we use AI — and where the line is
We use AI tools to accelerate parts of our workflow: structuring data, drafting first passes, surfacing sources, and translating the interface. AI does not get the final word. Every published page is reviewed and edited by a human on our team, who is responsible for its accuracy, framing, and recommendations. We disclose this openly because transparency about how content is produced is part of being trustworthy. You can read the full notice in our disclaimer.
Editorial independence & how we make money
SideHustlesGuide is free to read. We fund the work through two channels, both kept strictly separate from our editorial judgement:
- Affiliate links. Some links to tools, courses, and services are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy — at no extra cost to you. We only recommend things that earn their place in our structured evaluations, and a product is never ranked higher, added, or removed because of a commission. Affiliate links are disclosed on the pages where they appear.
- Advertising. We may display ads from third-party networks. Advertisers have no influence over our editorial content, rankings, or which methods we cover.
If we cannot cover a method or tool honestly, we would rather not cover it at all. We also exclude entire categories on principle: no get-rich-quick schemes, no multi-level marketing, and nothing whose income comes primarily from recruiting other people.
Keeping pages current
Pricing changes, platforms shut down, and tax rules move. We review our highest-traffic and most time-sensitive pages on a rolling basis and stamp each one with a visible last-updated date. When a change is material — a platform changes its fee structure, say — we update the page and the structured data behind it rather than leaving a stale figure in place.
Corrections policy
We get things wrong sometimes, and we want to know when we do. If you spot an error — an out-of-date price, a broken link, a figure that no longer holds — please tell us via our contact page. We verify every report against primary sources and correct confirmed errors promptly. Because the site is for educational purposes we can't guarantee a personal reply, but every correction report is read.
